About Me

PAINTING
Watercolor is my first love, although I love to draw as well.  Indeed, I believe that drawing is the foundation of painting – even abstract painting.  I have made occasional forays into oils, acrylics, printmaking and collage, and currently am  enjoying mixing media.

TEACHING
I have taught art in public schools all over the northeast and have recently enjoyed teaching adults in a variety of class and workshop venues.

EXHIBITS
I exhibit locally whenever the opportunity arises and with a number of arts groups in the area.  Selected juried shows include: the Everson Biennial, the Central Adirondack Regional Art Show (Old Forge), the  Cooperstown Art Association.

STYLE & SUBJECT
My subject matter and style are eclectic.  I am  partial to images of reflective surfaces and those incorporating flowers and plants, but also enjoy subjects as diverse as fossil bones and children playing on the beach.  My aesthetic approach ranges from very representational to geometric and abstract.  Recently I have attempted some pieces that are completely non-objective like “Crossings” and “Romanesque.”

PHILOSOPHY
I am not trying to solve the ills of the world with my painting.  I agree with Delacroix that “The first merit of a painting is to be a feast for the eye.” And that is my goal.

Bloody House

Hi folks,

Some here will remember me.  I've been away on some writing adventures.  I was originally involved on numerous sites, and had to cut back to concentrate on my bread and butter, my published works.  Since I've been gone, I've sold numerous poems and short stories.  Add to this a few books I've had published recently as well as all of the Editing I've been doing on other writer's short stories and Novellas.  My book cover work is advancing too.

The truth behind NETWORKING

Notes about NETWORKING from "The Profitable Artist" by Artspire

Networking

“...is about developing a base of people who will support your efforts and want you to succeed....

Networking is about finding and building relationships with people you care about who are linked to new opportunities, new markets...”

Attend art openings and start making new friends.

“A genuine interest in other people delivers a genuine interest in you.”

Tip

At the Hang Local, Artist and curator Ty Marshal asked me this question:

Maria, you had a lot of art shows last year. What is your secret?

At that time my only response was networking.

Networking did help me find new opportunities to show my art in different venues,

but I realize that I didn't five a complete answer.

The real "secret" that helps me, and many other professional artists,

to showcase my work is the awareness of the many web sites that publish opportunity listings.

Here are some that I check out weekly:
